About the Speaker
Elena Fuentes‑Afflick, MD, MPH, is chief scientific officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges, where she leads national efforts to advance medical research and the training of physician‑scientists across academic medicine. A former professor of pediatrics and senior academic leader at the University of California, San Francisco and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, she has held roles including vice dean, chief of pediatrics, and vice dean for academic affairs. An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, her scholarship focuses on health disparities, immigrant and Latino health, and diversity in academic medicine, and she is a nationally recognized leader and award‑winning advocate for the biomedical research community.
